On August 16th 2024, our world changed forever. Bain was just a toddler when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Overnight, our lives became a constant balancing act of blood sugar checks, insulin doses, alarms, and the worry that never goes away.

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. It isn?t caused by lifestyle or something Bain ate?it happens when the immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Without insulin, your body can?t survive. That means Bain?s life literally depends on insulin every single day.

Even though he?s so young, Bain has already shown an incredible amount of strength and resilience. He?s learned to handle finger pricks, infusion site changes, and CGM alarms?things no child should have to know. But Bain is more than his diagnosis. He?s full of laughter, curiosity, and joy. He?s a little boy who loves life?and we are determined to make sure T1D doesn?t stop him from chasing his dreams.

This is why we walk. We walk to honor Bain?s bravery. We walk to fight for better technology, better treatments, and one day a cure. We walk so no other family has to hear the words, ?Your child has Type 1 Diabetes.?

On October 18th at 8:30am at Flowood Nature Park, we?ll be stepping out as Team Bain for the Breakthrough T1D Walk. Every step we take, and every dollar raised, brings us closer to a future where kids like Bain don?t have to live with the constant burden of T1D.
