Show off your love for California's rich plant and animal life with this special limited-release design, now with new styles! Try the flowy cropped tee, long sleeve options, or kid's tee. Note: Women's Slim Fit Tee runs extra small, so buy a size (or two) larger than normal.
Your purchase helps Cal-IPC continue to protect native (and often threatened or endangered) species by helping our community manage invasive plants in our state.
A few highlights from the design:
- The endangered Ridgway's rail (Rallus obsoletus) nests and feeds in vegetation along coastal marshes. Since 2019, Cal-IPC has partnered with the Invasive Spartina Project to restore their habitat by removing introduced or hybridized cordgrass from the SF Bay and replanting native marsh species, including marsh gumplant (Grindelia stricta).
- The critically endangered Pacific pocket mouse lives in coastal sage scrub in Southern California. Development and introduced predators have driven them nearly to extinction. Remaining Pacific pocket mouse habitat is degraded by compacted soils and annual grasses and non-native species that create dense stands of vegetation. The mice prefer burrowing and feeding in loose sand or gravel with scattered vegetation.
- Rare California native plants such as Ojai fritillary (Fritiallaria ojaiensis), Pismo Clarkia (Clarkia speciosa ssp. immaculata), and Santa Cruz Island Dudleya (Dudleya nesiotica) are protected against extinction by California Plant Rescue (CaPR), a conservation effort that includes seed banks and living collections inside botanic gardens. Cal-IPC is partnering with the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden to better understand the effects of invasive plants on Pismo Clarkia and other sensitive species.
These are just a few of the remarkable species affected by our work across the state. Together, we're protecting California's environment and economy from invasive plants.
