Jazz is the heartbeat of D.C., and CapitalBop is working to keep up the pulse despite the direct attacks our city is currently facing. There has never been a more critical time to keep the culture of our city alive.
We?re asking for your support to ensure D.C. remains a creative hub for artists and music enthusiasts alike. But first, let me tell you what?s at stake.
We know that cities with a strong cultural identity are safer, healthier, and more welcoming?which is why CapitalBop has spent the past 15 years supporting the musicians who bring our city to life.
But right now, ongoing occupation and political attacks against our city, combined with cuts to arts funding, have created a threat to our communities, our culture, and CapitalBop?s mission.
In partnerships with Sycamore & Oak, Free DC, WPFW-FM, and others, CapitalBop is resisting repression through joy and creativity, bringing the live power of jazz into spaces where its energy is badly needed.
After 15 years, we?re still doing this the best way we know how:
- Presenting free festivals on both sides of the Anacostia River
- Providing the widely used DC Jazz Calendar for music lovers all over the region
- Publishing exciting and informational videos about the music scene
- Launching a music education program for young people in Ward 7 with our friends at Washington Parks & People
And no matter the time in history, creative music brings us all life ? and we are here to make sure its powers are felt all over D.C. But we need your help.
We?re inviting you to be a part of this moment by supporting the people and programs that keep our city vibrant. At CapitalBop, we are a team of artists, writers and creatives who work together every day to keep the music alive and healthy.
Join our movement. Grab your CapitalBop merch and donate today to help us protect and grow this music that brings our city so much life!
