In April 2022, Governor Abbott began busing asylum seekers to DC from the border as part of a racist and cruel publicity stunt. Both Mayor Bowser and President Biden have largely ignored our new neighbors. However, the DC, Maryland, and Virginia community showed up every single day to welcome our folks and MSMA was born. The community came together to provide food, housing, transportation, clothes, and medical support, among other things.
In 2023, we transitioned to focusing on more long-term resettlement support for our new neighbors. In 2025, we launched an ICE emergency hotline.

Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid (MSMA) is comprised of DC, Maryland, and Virginia community organizations and countless individual volunteers. It was formed in direct response to people being bused to DC from Texas.
Funds are going to Beloved Community Incubator, who serve as one of the anchor organizations of the network, as well as the fiscal sponsor.
