Daisy Mae is a 5-year old Greyhound x Great Dane who was surrendered by her owner. As a mixed breed dog with old injuries, she could have waited a very long time to find a loving home. We could not let that happen.
Thanks to all our wonderful sighthounds friends, Daisy Mae did not need to wait long. Linda Cliffel and the team from Sunburst - Ashley and Stacy were heroes for ?springing her ASAP.? The next thanks goes to Brian and his family for agreeing to foster her and next to Kendra for transporting her to meet Brian. Lisa Dail of GCGA promptly got her into an experienced and trusted orthopedist, as we had been told Daisy had an old injury from a broken leg sustained when she had been hit by a car. That?s all the information we had to go on. Daisy favored the leg and when we attempted to wean her for pain meds, she was very uncomfortable. She is experiencing muscle wasting for not using the rear leg and has an extremely low range of motion in the leg.
Next Brian took Daisy to his vet and found she had whipworms and tape worms ? poor girl. Don?t worry we got her treated for that!
The appointment and testing at the orthopedic vet revealed Daisy actually had a broken pelvis and the break went through her hip joint. Can you imagine?
Daisy is 5 years old and she deserves so much more. The vet recommends a FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy). This is the only viable option to give her a great reduction in pain and vast improvement in range of motion. The recovery will require follow-up vet visits and slow, short walks for several weeks, along with the administration of meds. After her stitches are removed, she will require hydrotherapy for 4 weeks.
Greyhounds in Motion will pay for the cost of all the related surgery and therapy. Generous donations have helped us raise $1,000 toward her $5,000 surgery. This daisy-inspired shirt, designed by adopter Peighton Cook, will help raise funds for Daisy Mae.
