About this campaign

Lucille, Todd's mom was a victim of dogfighting. She will never be forgotten and will always be one of the faces of the Stand Up For Pits Foundation.

LUCILLE was one of 9 dogs rescued from a San Diego dogfighting operation in 2016. She is believed to be Todd's mom. Lucille and Todd were taken to the Lancaster Animal Care Center and held as evidence for 3 months. The Stand Up For Pits Foundation begged the head of LA Shelters, Marcia Mayeda to give all 9 survivors to the Stand Up For Pits Foundation. They would only allow Todd and Lucille to be saved. The others were killed. A "vicious dog ordinace" still exists in LA County and it kills innocent dogs. It's fear based ignorance, discrimination enshrined in law and further victimizes the victims.

Lucille was pregnant when pulled from the "dungeon" as they called it but her babies were aborted at the shelter. The dogs were kept under a house where they were "trained" then taken to Mexico to fight. Lucille started losing weight so we got her to a vet and pleaded with them to test her for Babesia - a blood disease common among dogfighting victims - and they refused. They insisted it's rare for Los Angeles and she would never have it. We took her to another vet - she tested positive for Babesia Gibsoni. After 30k worth of medical and fighting like hell to save her, Babesia Gibsoni had done too much damage to her body. Had she been tested and treated sooner she could have overcome it. Lucille's little body and mind endured the unthinkable. Her ears torn, her breasts and insides destroyed yet her spirit and ability to love was unmatched. She was forced to live in darkness, unseen, used and abused. She had been failed by society, doctors and the shelter system. Humans tried hard to break and destroy her but Lucille's inherent goodness was stronger than the evils of humanity. She loved everyone, her toys and being seen. I promised her when she got better I would take her to the beach. She never got that chance. Lucille died in my home.

Dogfighting is an epidemic in America. People in and outside of animal welfare pretend it's not. They are wrong. Those who do this to dogs are a danger to us all. These dogs are not dangerous or the problem, humans are.
