With SNAP benefits being cut off, food insecurity will skyrocket for our community. Hard working people despite having jobs rely on having EBT to help lighten the load. Single fathers, mothers, elderly, the disabled and children will be affected.
Access to food is a human right that everyone deserves no matter where you come from.
Working with an organization that helps people get back on their feet I see how this directly affects them and I see how this will be affecting close friends in addition to my residents. I worry so much for these people. No one deserves to go hungry.
So, I've created an art peice to symbolize our mountain maryland and added a few little Easter eggs referencing our mountain foods.
A Chocolate and Vanilla Gob - I grew up eating these and got the best ones from the cookie lady that would come to Shaffer Ford. (Cookie lady if you read this please contact me I miss your Gobs and my husband misses your cookies)
A Pepperoni Roll - who doesn't love a pepperoni roll especially from Caporellis?
In the middle is sourdough bread fresh out of the oven in a cast iron pan. Bread is the base of any meal and symbolizes life and unity. Breaking bread with your neighbor.
As a community we need to stick together in these hard times. Appalachians take care of one another.
The text featured in this peice says "From my mountain to yours" showing that companionship.i just want to help my community in the best way I can and as an artist this is what i know what to do.
All art is hand drawn by me Sandie Mongold with absolutely no use of AI.
