Madison Grace Frederic is a beautiful baby girl that was born into the Frederic family on September 7, 2023 in Baton Rouge, LA. She has two loving parents, Ashley & Caleb, & two adoring siblings, Kaylee & Luke. Since her birth, she has had an extensive medical history & has been through a lot in a short amount of time. A full list of Madison's medical diagnoses can be found below.
Since her birth, Madison & her family have been in & out of the hospital with very few answers for the symptoms she was having. In June, a mass was found on Madison's stomach with little explanation as to what is was or why it grew. After an extensive stay at Texas Children's in Houston, TX in late June through mid July, the Frederics finally received the answers they'd been searching for! The mass is growing from her pancreas. Madison's pancreas has two ducts where it should only have one. The extra duct is too large, which is causing many of her GI-related symptoms & created inflammation that lead to the mass growing. This mass is so large that it's extended into her stomach & is blocking food from going into her intestines. This diagnosis is extremely rare & she's the youngest her doctors in Houston have seen with it. Until Madison, the youngest patient their team had diagnosed was three years old. In the coming months, Madison will need to undergo a very complex surgery called a Whipple. The surgery will last 6-12+ hours & the surgeon will need to remove part of her liver duct, part of her intestines, gall bladder duct, the very bottom of her stomach, & half of her pancreas then will have to reconnect everything. This procedure is necessary because if not done, over time the mass will turn into pancreatic cancer.
The Frederic family was finally sent home to Baton Rouge on July 10, 2024 with a feeding tube for Madison and pancreatic enzymes to ensure her body is absorbing nutrients as it should. The goal is that her pancreas can rest so that her inflammation will be reduced & that she can gain some strength. Her medical team would like to see her a bit older & stronger before undergoing the procedure due to the toll it will take on her little body.
We've launched this fundraiser to help support the Frederic family financially with all expenses related to Madison's medical needs - from medical bills to travel expenses to medication to home health costs & everything in-between. Our hope is that those that purchase will wear their shirts & pray for her often - especially when the day of her big surgery rolls around! We want the Frederic family to know on that day in particular, & throughout the recovery journey that will follow, how loved & supported they are & bring a little light to what will be a very difficult day for them.
