February 1st is fast approaching. What does that mean?
It marks the end of hunting season in Spain. Galgos (and other working breeds), are discarded at unimaginable rates, in unimaginable ways, to make room for new dogs ? a new season of breeding. Cruel, gut wrenching, despicable, unfathomable, barbarous, heartless -- there aren?t enough words to describe the madness.
Rescues will be undoubtably busier than ever with surrenders, rescues, and broken hearts. In Spain, there are NO animal welfare laws protecting these dogs. They are tools, and their galgueros are monsters.
