In May of 1973 as part of a citywide student contest, City Council under former Green Bay Mayor Thomas Atkinson voted unanimously to adopt this design as the City's official flag.
The now iconic design was created by Theresa Devroy, who was a junior at West High School in 1973. Following high school, Devroy attended and graduated from Madison Technical School with an associate's degree in technical art and continued on to work for an advertising company in Green Bay. Unfortunately, Devroy's promising career was cut short due to an unexpected illness. Theresa Devroy passed away at the age of 21 on November 14, 1977.
With an interest to revive this classic design and do some good for local schools, the City of Green Bay has been fortunate enough to work with Ms. Devroy's family to secure the design to raise funds for Green Bay Area Public Schools' arts programming.
All donations received by the Green Bay Area Public School Education Foundation will be put toward Green Bay Area Public Schools' arts programming.
