From Colby:
Griff?s cancer: precursor B acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Because leukemia is in the blood and is not contained like some other cancers (like tumors) it isn?t labeled in ?stages? the same way. Rather, various risk factors are considered - like age, WBC at diagnosis, CNS status, response to initial treatment, genetic factors, etc. Right now Griff is standard risk and we know he?s CNS2. Results from the bone marrow biopsy and his response to initial treatment will be important.
For now: We begin induction, which is 28 days. During this time, Griff will be outpatient (hallelujah, we thought he might have to be admitted for this entire duration). He will go to CMH once a week for chemo, and will have daily at home meds throughout induction.
The prayer is that no leukemia is found when labs and procedures are repeated at the end of induction.
Griffin?s whole treatment will likely take 2.5 years. But the outlook is positive - B-ALL has a very high survival rate. Griff is tough. Our faith is strong. Please pray for our sweet boy to be strong and courageous, for the treatment to be successful, for Griff to still experience comfort and peace and joy during this hard, hard time. We love him so much.
