The Ryan White (RW) program was developed in 1990 in memory of Ryan, a 13 year old child that was diagnosed with AIDS after a blood transfusion in 1984. Today, RW strives to provide access to medical and mental health for medium to low income folks living with HIV. After all the progress in HIV/AIDS education in the 80s-90s, many people are feeling like HIV is getting "swept under the rug" as they continue to suffer the affects of having a compromised immune system. AND there has been incredible medical progress with medications that manage viral loads keeping AIDS at bay. Additionally, these meds keep folks UNDETECTABLE and the virus UNTRANSMITTABLE. U=U
