Whales, dolphins, and porpoises (collectively known as ?cetaceans?) enchant us with their grace, intelligence, and beauty, and have an exceptional ability to inspire people and serve as ambassadors for marine conservation. Yet, these magnificent creatures face more threats than ever before - from entanglement in marine debris and fishing gear, ship strikes, noise pollution, climate change, ocean acidification, contaminants, to loss of habitat and whaling. We believe that the solutions to these and other threats facing cetaceans begin with education and scientific research.
The American Cetacean Society, San Francisco Bay Chapter offers a variety of
educational tools and programs which are of interest to both global and local
audiences that include children and adults. From a Cetacean Curriculum and teaching aids, to a naturalist certification course, and monthly speaker series, our rich set of education programs give the public access to deeper connection with local marine wildlife and to the people who work to understand and protect cetaceans.
We are also proud to offer annual research grants to the next generation of marine scientists. Sound scientific research is crucial to understanding the threats to cetaceans, and to developing viable solutions to ensure their survival. In the current environment where government support for marine science and conservation is being reduced, scientists and students are in deep need of assistance through grants from non-government organizations like the American Cetacean Society. Our grant recipients are marine scientists and advanced degree students whose projects are building the body of scientific knowledge of cetaceans and their habitats so that better decisions can be made about how to conserve and protect them.
We encourage you to visit our website or Facebook page to learn more about our programs and how to get involved!
The profits from each shirt sold will go directly toward our programs. We are grateful for your support and for your concern for the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins, and porpoises!
