The unique design of these shirts draws on Hudson?s history as a whaling port and represents the determination to bring Hudson back to life in the 1970s when dozens of business and civic leaders in 1975 formed the Society to Promote Our Unique Town ? or SPOUT. They paid a local graphic artist $75 to design SPOUTs logo, a spunky whale that today adorns Hudson?s street signs. For two decades, SPOUT was a phenomenal success, drawing shoppers ?downtown? through creative promotions, concerts, and lots of fun. Fighting the tide of suburbanization, SPOUT created a model for urban renaissance that other cities emulated. The riverscape is Hudson's own and represents the city's strong relationship to the river. All funds will be used to fulfill the library's History Room missions to collect, archive, and make accessible to the public the history of Hudson, Greenport, and Stockport.
