That was the question I kept hearing over and over, more than four years ago when we first started 30A Cats. Everyone seemed to know him ? everyone except me. Eventually someone handed me his address, and that?s when I finally got to meet the man - the marine-  behind all the stories, and to see firsthand his deep love for the cats.

Over a cup of strong coffee, Mr. JoeBob once told me how beautiful it was to watch the sun rise while the cats came running up the hill to greet him for breakfast. Another person described seeing his silhouette emerging through the morning fog, with a parade of cats walking beside him, their tails held tall and straight ? a modern-day pied piper. They said it looked almost spooky. But for him, it was the highlight of his day.

Feeding those cats, caring for them, and receiving their trust and love in return ? that was his joy. His kindness made their world safer, and their love made his world brighter.

And isn't that what we all seek from our love of nature and this little strip of road called 30A
