Mason surprised us all last winter when he didn?t bounce back from what seemed like a simple sore throat. When he was still feeling unwell after Christmas break, we knew something more serious was going on. Even though we should have been more alert to the signs, we were still shocked when our second trip to the ER revealed that Mason was in diabetic ketoacidosis and had Type 1 diabetes. Just like his Papa and Uncle Duncan, Mason was about to start the fight of his life.
True to form, Mason took it all in stride. Now, 11 months later, he?s an 11-year-old living fully with Type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. He reminds us every day that life can change in an instant?and that it?s far better to smile and enjoy the ride than to get caught up in the small stuff. He's far more concerned with his Math homework and football game than counting carbs for his lunch. He's had more shots than his dad and I put together and can't be bothered to even flinch anymore. He's strong and healthy and growing everyday. We're hoping for a cure in his lifetime! Help us reach that goal.
