Kulu is a pangolin who was rescued from the wildlife trade. His journey from rescue through rehabilitation to rewilding by the African Pangolin Working Group is recorded in the award winning Netflix documentary, Pangolin: Kulu's journey. Alates are the winged stage of ants and termites, the only food pangolins eat. A healthy pangolin requires a healthy ant and termite population, so it's appropriate both are celebrated in this design.
