Thank you for supporting Children?s Hospital Los Angeles. This is a charity I?ve worked with over the years and I?m excited to be raising funds for their Expressive Arts Program, which helps patients and families cope with the challenges of hospitalization while providing positive experiences and opportunity for self expression. As a young child art was always an adventure, a comfort and sometimes an escape. Fantasy and expression can be good for the soul, certainly has been for mine. Enjoy the shirts and thank you kindly for your generosity! LG

The Mark Taper - Johnny Mercer Artists Program at Children?s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) uses paint, markers, musical instruments and movement to heal the whole child. To do this, they rely on art, dance, drama, music and expressive arts therapies.
Unlike the traditional art and recreation programs found in many hospitals, CHLA?s artists program is an innovative model that is part of the hospital?s clinical vision. Expressive Arts Therapists?including art therapists, music therapists and dance/movement therapists?work as part of the hospital?s Family-Centered Care, multidisciplinary treatment team. Expressive Arts Therapists are trained to assist patients and families in building creative coping skills, exploring the thoughts and feelings related to hospitalization and illness, and utilizing the arts for exploration and self-expression. Expressive Arts have been shown to reduce pain, improve sleep, promote neurocognitive development in infants, and more. Just as they would for medication, any clinician can order a prescription for art, music, or dance/movement therapy as part of a patient?s care.
Because the type of support provided is not reimbursed by medical insurance, the program is currently 100 percent philanthropically funded. Those who support the Mark Taper?Johnny Mercer Artists Program help introduce the healing power of the arts to thousands of young patients coping with illness and injury. You will help provide avenues of expression, choice, and control to children experiencing emotional pain and challenges.
