The Lokowaka Wildlife Protection Campaign is a community-driven effort to restore and safeguard the unique wetland ecosystem at Lokowaka Pond in Hilo, Hawai?i. Our mission is to protect native species, including the endangered ?alae ke?oke?o (Hawaiian coot), by removing invasive plants and addressing the threats posed by invasive predators such as mongoose, rats, and feral cats.
By participating in or supporting this campaign, every individual contributes to:
- Creating a safer home for endangered birds like the ?alae ke?oke?o.
- Revitalizing Hawai?i?s wetlands and loko i?a (traditional fishponds).
- Building a community of conservation-minded stewards invested in the health of the ??ina.
This campaign embodies our philosophy: ?He ali?i ka ??ina, he kauw? ke kanaka? ? the land is chief, and we are its caretakers. Every purchase, volunteer hour, and act of support helps ensure that Lokowaka Pond remains a thriving sanctuary for generations to come.
? Join us in protecting Lokowaka wildlife and restoring Hawai?i?s precious wetlands!
