WHAT: The Multistate Association for Bilingual Education, Northeast (MABE) is holding MABE?s Dual Language Bilingual Education Annual Conference on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Windham High School, Willimantic, CT.
WHY: The purpose of this conference is to create the opportunity for Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) to network and collaborate, increase professional development, share instructional methods that promote bilingualism and multiculturalism, disseminate current research, and learn new ways to reach out to families and communities. This conference is an opportunity for school and district leaders, classroom teachers, and staff working in DLBE programs to network with other DLBE practitioners, engage in professional development for DLBE instruction, and learn how to develop and advocate for DLBE.
WHO: Up to 450 attendees are expected to register for ?Campeones del biling?ismo: Building justi?a together? featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Christine Leider, Assistant Professor in the Department of Multilingual Learner Education in the School of Education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. #MABE2026 invites educators, families, and policy makers to register online by Friday, February 13 (or with late fee after that and through Monday, February 23), with reduced price tickets for members, groups, parents, and student admissions. ABOUT THE ART & ARTIST
Special thanks to MABE member Jenni Adams of Worcester Public Schools, MA for her artistic contribution. A Worcester local, Jenni is a Dual Immersion teacher.
"Some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice.? This Stephen King quote inspired Jenni?s art. In Jenni's own words, "Multilingualism is a means of freedom. Freedom to express oneself, freedom to connect with others, freedom to discover all the beauty there is in humankind and the world. Dual Language Bilingual Education unlocks access to high academic achievement, sociocultural competence, bilingualism and biliteracy, and a critically conscious mind; a free mind.? Jenni is half Cuban and half Irish, and has spent much of her life living in and traveling to the Caribbean. She drew upon this connection in her creative process: ?The peacock, parakeet, and quetzal represent the freedom multilingualism brings and are also all traditionally found in warmer climates. The flowers are my version of the flamboy?n trees which bring such brightness to the Caribbean islands.? The heart logo for Educators for a Multilingual Multicultural America (EMMA), a long-standing MABE partner, is also seen peeking out in the background. We agree with Jenni when she says that ?as educators, we open our students' hearts to freely fly and rejoice in their exploration of the world!"
