Wildlife Research & Conservation
Our conservation science experts work on our wildlife sanctuaries and beyond to ensure that the nature of Massachusetts continues to thrive. We create and enhance habitat on our wildlife sanctuaries and support native plants and wildlife across the state through active land management, monitoring, and research.
Mass Audubon actively protects over 38,000 acres of land across Massachusetts and is now the largest private conservation landowner in the Commonwealth.
Mass Audubon manages more than 38,000 acres of wildlife habitat across the state, ranging from barrier beaches to open fields to northern hardwood forests. We regularly inventory and monitor our land and implement management actions to ensure that Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries truly are protecting the nature of Massachusetts.
Education & Community Outreach
Mass Audubon is one of the largest statewide providers of environmental education programming for youth, families, and adults. Our statewide network of wildlife sanctuaries, nature centers, and museums serve as the base for our work in education and community outreach. Our education programs take place at our sites as well as in communities across the Commonwealth in partnership with schools, classrooms, and community-based organizations.
The current and projected future impacts of climate change on nature in Massachusetts are very significant, requiring a thoughtful and comprehensive approach and a sustained effort. Mass Audubon is uniquely suited to demonstrate actions to adapt to climate change.
From defending endangered species to mitigating climate change impacts, one of the most effective ways to protect the nature of Massachusetts is through sound environmental policy. Mass Audubon?s Advocacy Department works with other conservation organizations, the Governor?s office, legislators, and citizen groups to help shape and strengthen environmental laws and regulations at the state, federal and local levels of government.
Proceeds benefit Mass Audubon.
