In 2017, GREEN performed a massive 100-bird rescue operation. The rescued included love birds, parakeets, conures, macaws, ducks, and even a tortoise! It wasn't part of the plan. At that time, GREEN had always been a turtle and tortoise rescue. However, the GREEN team just knew this was part of GREEN's calling.
Within the weekend, they made two trips with two trucks and two trailers and rescued nearly 100 birds.
That night, as a peace-offering to their new animal ambassadors, GREEN began giving out peanuts to each and every one of the birds. AND THEY LOVED THEM!!!
The birds have gotten a "night-night peanut" every night since that night in October of 2017.
Today, these birds have literally shaped the landscape of the GREEN with the "Night-Night Peanut" ritual that has been passed on to the volunteers, interns, members, and now to tourists who want to be a part of this special, endearing event.
