In 2024, Virginia passed legislation allowing localities to create a computerized animal cruelty registry?a public database listing individuals convicted of serious animal cruelty offenses. This new tool adds another layer of transparency and accountability to the work we do, ensuring that those who harm animals are no longer hidden from public awareness. We?ve also added access to the public dangerous dog registry, where you can look up any dog currently registered as dangerous across Virginia.

But our work isn?t done. We?re actively pursuing legislation to include misdemeanor animal cruelty convictions in the registry?because far too often, felony cruelty cases are pled down in court. Every conviction matters, and every animal deserves justice.
