About the In Loving Memory of Olivia campaign on Bonfire 1

Born in the wild in 1975, Olivia was captured and imported to the United States. She was purchased by the Coulston Foundation, a biomedical research lab, in 1976. There, she endured invasive procedures as part of a hepatitis study and was entered into a breeding program. Despite this heartbreaking past, Olivia carried herself with remarkable resilience.


Olivia will be sorely missed, but she will be remembered always for her strength, her warmth, and her ability to bring joy to everyone who knew her. Her story is one of resilience, love, and healing?the very heart of what sanctuary means. Carrying on her legacy at Save the Chimps are six of the children she gave birth to in the laboratory: Kay, Andres, Daphne, Genoveva, Phoenix, and Ryan the 2nd.
