Howdy! We are Oyster Boys Conservation, a nonprofit based in Sarasota, Florida. Our mission is to improve local water quality through the use of nature-based solutions, while educating and engaging the community in coastal conservation initiatives.
We recycle oyster shells from local restaurants, and we use them to build vertical oyster gardens (VOGs) with our community members. The VOGs are deployed in our local waterways to create surfaces that juvenile oysters can settle onto. As the oysters mature, they filter water, create habitats for other animals, and slow down wave energy to prevent shoreline erosion. Cheers to the mighty oysters!
