We continue to grieve Opal Creek wilderness, Jawbone Flats, and surrounding communities that were devastated by the Beachie Creek fire a year ago. But - like the forest - we are sprouting new life.
This summer Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center led outdoor programs for youth in new-to-us Oregon wildernesses. In 2022 we are working to expand access to these programs through increased financial aid, transportation alternatives, and a dedicated lens toward equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Though we can't access Opal Creek at this time, we're working to create community partnerships and laying the groundwork for potential site development. OCAFC's staff and board of directors is working together to explore every possibility for Jawbone Flats and for growing the organization's outdoor education programs, community outreach endeavors, and diversity and inclusion practices.
