The mission of the School Program is to serve and advocate for the educational needs of school-aged patients. School is an important part of a child?s life. When school is interrupted due to a hospitalization or medical diagnosis, an educational liaison can provide educational support. Our School Program is committed to supporting patients? educational plan throughout hospitalization, treatment, and long-term needs.
The School Program is a team of licensed educators also known as educational liaisons. When identified that a child needs school support, an educational liaison partners with the patient?s medical team and school to provide normalcy while hospitalized and to ensure that an appropriate education plan is put in place upon transition back to school.
Our educational liaisons are committed to serving your child?s educational needs with your consent depending on your child?s needs, including services like:
- Contacting your child?s local classroom teacher to coordinate assignments while he/she are hospitalized
- Providing instruction in a classroom setting or providing 1:1 instruction when medically indicated
- Providing medical documentation to school regarding medical team?s recommendation for accommodations or any restrictions that will impact a child?s school plan. This can also include homebound instruction applications, 504 plan recommendations, and Individualized Education Plan recommendations
- Providing additional programming such as Bear In The Chair, REACH, Heart Cart, Kidney Kart, Rehab Brave Bucks, and more!
