The Salamander Stroll Virtual 5k is an FCSal hosted event that will take place on May 4th, 2024 for our annual Salamander Saturday celebration. You can participate in this event from wherever you are, in whatever way you want! Proceeds from event registration and shirt sales will go into the Daniel M. DiGiacomo grant fund, which funds salamander-focused projects related to research, conservation, education, and/or outreach every year. One of our 2023 grant recipients, Pedro Peloso, showing off a printed copy of Lia: A salamandra viajante. This educational children's book was published with the help of the Daniel M. DiGiacomo small grant fund and highlights the importance of conserving Brazil's amphibians.

A photo of Bolitoglossa savagei from our other 2023 grant recipients, Fundacion Atelopus. The team at Fundacion Atelopus conducted field trips to look for this species and test them Bd (chytrid fungus). Additionally, they held an educational workshop for children on Salamander Saturday and a workshop with students to discuss the biology of B. savagei, forest conservation, and water quality. Going forward, they will conduct additional searches for the salamander and hold threat mapping/land-use mapping workshops.
