This design features the Soul Consoling Tower, a lasting monument built in 1943 to honor those who had passed during the incarceration. The monument is reimagined here in simplified shapes -- disconnected, yet stacked on top of each other to symbolize how it was built by, with, and for many hands. The clouds represent ancestors as they encircle the monument, both celebrating and protecting it.
Each mon was designed in collaboration with Massachusetts-based artist, Brittany Arita.
