The ?Bogota Girls?Crew A Legacy Reborn

In the early 1970s, when Title IX cracked open the gates of opportunity for female athletes across the country, Bogota High School didn?t just follow the trend?it made history.

Among the first to lace up her spikes and step onto the track was Mary Fitzgerald, a founding member of Bogota?s inaugural Girls Track team. Her team-issued hoodie?dark faded purple, bold goldenrod lettering, stamped with ?BOGOTA GIRLS??was more than gear. It was a badge of honor.

Fast forward to the Bogota 5K, decades later. A runner strides across Feigel Field wearing that very sweater. Faded. Fierce. Iconic. It wasn?t just a sweatshirt, it was a statement. A reminder that every girl who runs today owes something to the ones who ran first.

? Why We?re Recreating It

We?re not just reviving a design. We?re resurrecting a legacy:

  • To honor the trailblazers who ran before there were lanes for them.
  • To celebrate the spirit of Title IX and the rise of girls athletics in Bogota. A historic legacy of excellence.
  • To give today?s athletes a tangible link to their roots?a wearable piece of history.

This isn?t retro. It?s revolutionary. This isn?t merch. It?s real history.
