The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) is a 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1978 for the purpose of the rescue, rehabilitation and release of marine mammals and sea turtles. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is the only Federally-authorized organization in the State of New Jersey that responds to seals, dolphins, whales and sea turtles that have come ashore along all of New Jersey's waterways. Since 1978, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center has responded to over 6,330 stranded marine mammals and sea turtles in distress. As the only marine mammal hospital in the state, MMSC provides life-saving veterinary care to sick and injured seals, giving many a second chance at life in the wild. In situations where animals may not be released, every effort is made to secure a proper, enriching facility to provide lifetime care. We are further committed to the well-being of marine mammals and to inspire responsible stewardship of our oceans through educational outreach and collaborations.
