I believe that no human is useless because I lived it. My journey from depression and joblessness to discovering purpose in the most unlikely place?deep within a forest in Ghana?taught me that even in our darkest moments, we can find the path to our greatest breakthroughs.
Years ago, I found myself in a place where hope felt like a distant memory. Jobless, mocked by friends, and weighed down by failure, I spiraled into depression. The city, once full of promise, became suffocating. A hurtful comment from someone close to me pushed me to the edge, and with nothing left to lose, I made a radical decision: I left everything behind and moved into the forest.
The forest was harsh?long hours walking to the farm, drinking from murky streams, and living without electricity. But in that discomfort, I found clarity. I connected with nature, and more importantly, I reconnected with myself. What was meant to break me became my salvation. I found peace, purpose, and a deeper understanding of life. That?s when I realized: not all discomfort is meant to destroy us. Some discomfort shapes us, molds us into who we?re meant to be.
That?s when "No Human Is Useless" was born?first as a movement, then a mission, and eventually a memoir. I knew my story wasn?t just mine. There are countless young people facing the same battles I fought?joblessness, depression, self-doubt. I see it in the youth today, struggling to find their footing, feeling lost and purposeless. But I stand as living proof that no matter how low you fall, you can rise. And not just rise, but soar.
For me, writing "No Human Is Useless" wasn?t just about telling my story; it was about giving others the strength to face their own. I wanted to empower people, to show them that their struggles don?t define them, but how they rise from them does. Winning the Caribbean Global Award in the UK for my efforts in helping others recover from depression wasn?t the end, it was a new beginning. It fueled my desire to keep sharing my story, to continue empowering others to find their purpose, no matter how lost they feel.
This is why I do what I do?to remind the world that every human being has value, every story matters, and no matter how dark the road may seem, there?s always light ahead. We all have a purpose, and sometimes, it?s in the most uncomfortable places that we find it.
