This year marks the 7th celebration of Indigenous Milk Medicine Week (IMMW)?held annually August 8?14 during National Breastfeeding Month, just after World Breastfeeding Week. Sponsored and hosted by the Indigenous Milk Medicine Collective (IMMC), IMMW is a powerful space for cultural celebration, education, and advocacy led by and for Indigenous communities.
IMMC is a grassroots, Indigenous-led collective committed to uplifting Native first food experiences, cultural wellness, and equity in Indigenous milk practices. Our work is a labor of love, unstoppable, and deeply rooted in ceremony, sovereignty, and kinship.
Each year, we offer free programming that includes:
- Educational sessions
- Sunrise ceremonies
- Movement & healing spaces
- Storytelling
- Cultural celebration
Your t-shirt purchase directly supports IMMW?s continued success. Proceeds help us keep programming free and accessible?supporting virtual conferences, speaker honoraria, technology access, and the behind-the-scenes work it takes to gather our communities across distances and generations. We thank you for your support!
2025 Featured Artist: Soni Lopez-Chavez
This year?s IMMW shirts feature artwork by Soni Lopez-Chavez, a Chichimeca artist whose powerful work centers Indigenous identity, healing, and liberation.
Born in Cuitzeo de Abasolo, Guanajuato, Mexico, and raised in the U.S.?Mexico borderlands, Soni brings vibrant visual storytelling rooted in bicultural experience. Her digital illustrations challenge stereotypes, celebrate community, and uplift themes of sovereignty, mental health, and self-love. This year's artwork expresses celebration for the theme: "Unapologetically Indigenous: Love, Landback, and Liberation."
This Year?s Theme: Unapologetically Indigenous: Love, Landback, and LiberationOur 2025 theme honors the beauty and resilience of Milk Medicine traditions. It reminds us that:
- Love nurtures families, strengthens kinship, and binds us together
- Landback reclaims traditional practices and lifeways grounded in the land and the four directions
- Liberation ensures our right to birth, feed, and live in ways aligned with our Ancestors
Why It Matters
