So what's the problem anyway?
Approximately 9.2 million domesticated equines live in the United States (US Government Accountability Office). There has been discussion about the most ethical way of managing the portion of unwanted horses in this 9.2 million equines, but not much advancement on how to reach this. In 2007 equine slaughterhouses were closed in the United States. Although this may sound like a win for the equine population, this has come with its own consequences.
Senior horses are not easily sold on the market. Owners who no longer want, or can't afford their horse have limited options. These include finding a rescue that will take that horse, euthanasia, or sending the horse to slaughter.
Where do we come in?
As a sanctuary we are able to provide the option of peacefully spending their remaining years rather than unneeded early death. The horses at our organization, Serenity Fields, either pass naturally or if in the best interest of the animal, euthanized.
We are looking for funds to help cover vet/farrier/dentist visits, medication costs, feed/supplies and supplies to expand pastures on our land to increase our space for more horses. Any support towards this goal would be so greatly appreciated. By supporting our farm, you are directly impacting horses that would normally be sent to slaughter or euthanized and providing them the morally correct care even once they are no longer ?useful? to humans.
THANK YOU FROM ALL STAFF AND HORSES AT SERENITY FARMS!
