At 4.5 years old, Warren had a sudden and severe regression in skills, speech, and behavior. Our bright, happy boy was suddenly silent, confused, scared, and out of control. For over two years, he has spent countless hours traveling to doctor's appointments, being poked and prodded at hospitals, being tested for every awful disease, and working hard at multiple therapies.

Our family's life has changed completely - our life revolves around being hypervigilant to keep everyone safe around the difficult behaviors that come from the psychosis and confusion of this disease. Finally, we have a diagnosis of what has been happening to sweet Warren - his own immune system has been attacking and inflaming his brain cells in his temporal and frontal lobes. It has caused epilepsy, psychosis, cognition and behavior issues. His doctors now know what to do to treat his disease. So far, the treatments have not been strong enough to keep the inflammation at bay; we've seen his old spark shine through temporarily, only to fade away again. He is now entering a pivotal time where he's getting a chemotherapy medication to shut down his immune system.

As his parents, we are taking time off work in order to support Warren's brain's recovery and to keep all germs away from our kids and household in the month or so after his immune system is shut down from the medicine. We also have another child who suddenly fell very ill as we were preparing for our month off, so we've been staying in two children's hospitals in two different cities with two different children.
