The ICS Take Flight Travel Program creates global citizens by fostering tolerance and cultural understanding through travel and second language acquisition. Each year, 7th grade students at ICS have the chance to travel to Colombia, Ecuador, or Guatemala. We are raising funds to ensure that all students, regardless of economic level and/or ability to pay, are able to take part in this amazing travel program.
The theme of the trip to Colombia is educational inequity. Travelers spend the week visiting a variety of schools in Barranquilla and complete a service project with the students and community members of Colegio Buen Consejo.
The trip to Guatemala also focuses on educational inequity. Travelers spend a week in Antigua, Guatemala and partner with 2 different schools to complete a service project with the school community.
The trip to Ecuador is science-based. The itinerary includes an academic exchange and service-learning project with local students, science experiments at zero degrees latitude, visits to a glacier, cloud forest, volcanic lake, cacao plantation, and butterfly garden.
At ICS we believe that travel is one of the surest ways to foster perspective, understanding, and true global citizenship. Past travelers and their families have all shared that participating in Take Flight was a truly life-changing experience, and we are committed to making this opportunity available to as many students as possible.
