Takis Shelter is a no-kill, no-cage shelter in the island of Crete, Greece. The situation in post-crisis Greece is really bad for dogs and cats, with millions of them roaming the streets. Takis build this shelter single handedly 6 years ago and started saving stray animals from the street. The shelter right now has reached its capacity and is home to 350 dogs, 50 cats, 7 goats and 2 sheep and more come in every day. Takis is especially known for taking in animals that everybody else would put to sleep. One such example is Black. Black had a big tumor in the face, was probably hit by a car because he was paralyzed and then somebody threw him in the sea to die. Takis took Black in, despite pressure from everybody to put him to sleep. Everybody is portraying and promoting healthy strong dogs, but there are also these animals that are different, with special needs, animals that if they were humans they would probably be bullied. Takis shelter wants to raise awareness of those animals and support their right to live happily without being put to sleep because they do not fit our 'standards'. Here is the story of Black:
