Founded in New York City in 2000, Teaching Artist Project (TAP) has trained over 1000 artists through our 8-month Signature Program, Summer Institute, Teaching Artist Institute of Rochester and custom trainings. Teaching Artist Project (TAP) is a comprehensive training and internship program for working artists who desire to incorporate social justice and social emotional learning into their teaching practice. We are a program of Community-Word Project, based in New York City.
Our workshops cover a multitude of topics relating to social justice and education, including Community Building, Curriculum Design, TA as Entrepreneur, and Creating Classroom Culture. Our core theme for this year is Radical Love, which is deeply embedded in our work as artists and educators. With Radical love, all are welcome. Everyone?s creative expression is valued.
For 2025, Radical Love, one of our core values for all Community-Word Project programs was the theme for our annual merch desing. 2025 TAP Alumna Tori Hanna was inspired to design an image visually depicting the meaning of radical love for them- mutual aid, accountability, and presence - these principles are the heart of our community!
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Tori is a non-binary, queer artist currently living in Connecticut. They believe that life is a sacred path we create, that shaping a path divested from the status quo is most important for creating a world that centers authenticity and agency, and their own life reflects this belief. Their colorful, vibrant art is meant to be both soothing and inspiring for the soul.
They currently work as a freelance photographer and illustrator and they've been managing a small business selling their queer-centric art on the side for several years now. Being a 2025 TAP alum, they are also looking to delve more deeply into teaching artistry work.
In their free time, they assist in mutual aid efforts in Connecticut and hope to expand community-building work over time. They also read world-reimagining books, watch cooking/baking shows, create feelings-based abstract art, and spend time with nature.
