The MacArthur Memorial preserves artifacts and records about the 1941-1942 defense of Philippines and the POW experience that followed. Many of these items are donations from survivors and/or their families.
The MacArthur Memorial and the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation are committed to preserving the stories of these men, women, and children. That commitment extends to sharing their stories to ensure their sacrifices and the difficult lessons of the 1942 fall of the Philippines are not forgotten.
As part of this mission, in September 2023, the MacArthur Memorial opened The Price of Unpreparedness: POW's in the Philippines during World War II, a 5000 sq. ft. special exhibit. The exhibit will run through summer 2025. Admission is FREE.
A 7'x7' map of the locations of many of the military and civilian POW camps will be part of that exhibit. That map is featured on The Price of Unpreparedness campaign T-Shirts. Proceeds from this campaign go towards continued conservation and education programs about this period in our history.
