In 1965 (and several other occasions), Lady Bird Johnson, first lady of the United States of America, said:
"When I go into the poorest neighborhoods, I look for the flash of color - a geranium in a coffee can, a window box set against the scaling side of a tenement, a border of roses struggling in a tiny patch of open ground. Where flowers bloom, so does hope - and hope is the precious, indispensable ingredient without which the war on poverty can never be won."
She was, of course, right. Flowers do bring us joy and hope, and brighten the day no matter the situation. And on a deeper level, they filter our water and support precious ecosystems filled with birds, bees and butterflies. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - the Botanic Garden of Texas - is committed to those flowers and the people that benefit from them.
Profits from these t-shirts go to our efforts to conserve native plants and educate people about their importance.
