This year we are celebrating the Year of the Horse. We simply could not choose just one resident to represent the year of the horse. This herd represents our journey as San Diego's longest operating 501(c)3 equine sanctuary. The beautiful design includes Missy, Simone, Todd, Qianli Ma, Zhen Zhen, and Gracie.
Each year we celebrate the Chinese New Year with our "Year of" apparel, but the Year of the Horse has a special place in our hearts.
The Lunar New Year begins on February 17. This Year of The Horse is extra unique, it is the Year of The Fire Horse, that only happens once every 60 years. The Fire Horse represents intense energy for innovation and bold action, amplifying the Horse's natural drive for freedom and success.
Our mission is to provide a safe haven for horses and other animals in need. For many of our horses, our sanctuary is their first taste of freedom. We want every resident to have confidence, joy, and comfort until the end of their days.
All proceeds from the Year of The Horse 2026 apparel goes directly to care for our horses. The next Year of the Horse will not be here again for another twelve years! So, make sure to get your Year of the Horse 2026 shirt and join us in honoring the strong and passionate spirit of the horse!
We invite you to meet the rest of our herd on our website.
Thank you for supporting Horses of Tir Na Nog.

Qianli Ma came to us from County of San Diego Department of Animal Services, who rescued her as a stray. She arrived close to Chinese New Year of the horse on January 31, 2014. Qianli Ma means a horse that covers a thousand li a day (310 miles). In traditional Chinese, it was a complimentary name given to a person of great talent.

Qianli Ma's weight shifted dramatically, leading to the diagnosis of a late-term, high-risk pregnancy. Twelve days later on May 9, Qianli Ma defied all odds and gave birth to a healthy filly. At a special 100 Day Celebration in August 2014, the little filly was given the name Zhen Zhen, meaning ?Very precious.?
