Much has changed in the last year. We sunset "TurningPoint" and bloomed into Iris Breast Cancer Rehabilitation. After 13 years in the same small clinic, we just moved to a bigger stand-alone building.
You may be wondering what this new chapter means for Iris. Here's what we'd like you to know:
- This move represents hope and a fresh start. About this time last year, Iris was facing one of the most difficult periods in its history. The organization came very close to closing its doors. Thanks to new leadership, the dedication of our staff and Board, generous supporters, and the belief that breast cancer survivors deserve rehabilitation, Iris is still here?and moving forward.
- We're making progress, but our work isn't finished. While we've made significant strides in strengthening the organization, we are not yet where we need to be financially. There is still a tremendous need for philanthropic support to ensure every survivor can access the rehabilitation services they deserve.
- The financial landscape for nonprofits has changed dramatically. Across the country, reductions in federal funding have placed greater demands on private philanthropy. Many foundations and donors are now directing gifts toward programs and research that were once supported by federal dollars, like breast cancer research. While those investments are important, it has left fewer philanthropic resources available for organizations like Iris that provide essential rehabilitation and survivorship care.
- Rehabilitation remains an overlooked part of breast cancer care. Even though rehabilitation improves mobility, reduces pain, restores function, and helps survivors return to the lives they love, insurance reimburses only 30% of what it costs to provide this specialized care. Philanthropy fills that gap so that we can continue our commitment to turning no one away because of financial circumstances.
- Our focus remains unchanged. Every decision we make is guided by one question: "How do we ensure breast cancer survivors receive the care they need after treatment?" This new location gives us the opportunity to serve patients in a welcoming, accessible environment while continuing to build a stronger future for Iris.
This new office isn't a sign that our work is finished, it's a sign that we refused to give up.
It's a symbol of resilience, renewal, and our commitment to being here for every woman who needs rehabilitation after breast cancer. Survival is only the beginning, and together we're building a stronger future for every survivor who walks through our doors.
Thank you for standing by us and helping us bloom. We're grateful to be here. And grateful to continue this important work.
