Black Oystercathers (BLOYs) are an indicator species for the rocky intertidal zone, meaning if something is going on with their population, we know something is going on with the entire habitat. Monterey Audubon Society has been monitoring BLOYs from Pescadero to Point Lobos since 2012 after one researcher in Alaska thought they should be listed as endangered. Turns out, we need more data to support a listing (someday).
