Charlotte is fundraising for Breakthrough T1D Walk, Piedmont Triad, NC, a movement where thousands rally to transform the future for everyone living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Join us as walk alongside Charlotte to celebrate her resilience and help raise funds to further diabetes technology development. While we don?t know if we will ever see a cure for type 1 research for technology development could make life with type 1 easier. What is type 1 diabetes (T1D):
T1D is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the pancreas stops producing insulin, an essential hormone that helps the body turn food into energy. It places a profound human, emotional, and financial burden on those who live with it and their families. Right now, there is no cure.
Our Charlotte was diagnosed July 17th, 2025 at the age of 4. It was the scariest, most confusing, gut wrenching day of our lives. Hearing the words your baby has an incurable autoimmune disease shook us to our core. While we wanted to crumble our sweet girl didn?t fold, it was as if God had built her for such a time as this. She took every injection, finger prickle, and change with incredible grace, resilience, and strength.
This last year has been one of learning, a never ending rotation of sensor and pump changes, pokes and injections, and constant monitoring. We?ve had hard days and tears but on our hardest days we talk about the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. In Daniel 3 we read the story of three men who refused to bow and worship an idol and are bound and thrown into the fiery furnace. When the king and his people look into the fire instead of the men being burned alive they saw another standing in the fire next to the men who were no longer bound and not even a hair on their head had been touched by the fire. God could have snapped them out of the fire, He instead walked through the fire with them. On our days when everything feels on fire and diabetes is crushing us we know there?s another in our fire. Charlotte has such a strong faith she has chosen to praise the Lord every step of this journey. She chose our team name and the theme of her shirts from her own sweet heart. I would have chosen a different path but the Lord is sovereign and is using type 1 as part of Charlotte?s testimony.
We praise the Lord for His mercy having a Type 1 child in this time of medicine and technology. Before the invention of insulin in 1921 type one was a death sentence.
