Research shows that reading aloud to children is the #1 way to build the skills required for success in reading. When students aren't proficient readers by 3rd grade, they're more likely to drop out, struggle to find stable employment, and to become dependent on social services. Read Aloud WV has a variety of programs dedicated to motivating children to want to read for fun. Children who read for fun (not just in school) are shown to be more successful readers because they're regularly practicing their skills. One program that most relates to this t-shirt is our Volunteer Reader program, which organizes an army of trained volunteers to read aloud weekly in classrooms across the state. These volunteers serve as reading role models, showing students that their community cares about reading. To get involved, visit readaloudwv.org.
