From 2018 to 2014, our beloved Dory faithfully served as canine camp director, bringing joy and comfort to countless campers. As the dedicated facility dog for Children's Camp programs, Dory was a constant presence for our campers, and they eagerly anticipated seeing her at camps throughout the year.
Alongside her handler, Catherine, Dory used her calm and confident nature to inspire campers to embrace new challenges, whether paddleboarding across the lake or soaring down the zipline. For those missing home, she offered quiet reassurance and unconditional love.
Camp has a way of bringing out the best in people ? and the same was true for Dory. She thrived in the camp environment, relishing every moment outdoors. She loved swimming in the lake, chasing squirrels, and had an uncanny ability to sniff out dropped snacks in the dining hall. Theme days were her favorite ? she proudly wore costumes to match the fun. And when camp days grew long, Dory perfected the art of the ?camp nap,? finding the coziest spot to rest amid the liveliest activities.
Dory?s life was filled with boundless love, joy, and purpose. Her impact on our campers, volunteers, and staff is immeasurable. We will forever cherish her legacy ? the dog who made camp, and life, a little brighter for everyone.
Dory was a part of Children's Canines For Kids program. This furry fleet of
facility dogs are specially trained to provide animal-assisted therapy to our
patients.
