On August 23, 2017, I was 16 weeks pregnant and went in for my 16-week ultrasound to find out the gender of our baby and was devastated to find out there was no longer a heartbeat. I was admitted to the hospital and later that evening delivered a sweet baby boy. He had ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes, and already at 16 weeks, I could tell he would have my little nose.
I don't get the opportunity to throw him birthday parties (and if you know me, you know I love to throw a good birthday party). So, in lieu of a party, I design a t-shirt with a phrase or scripture that has spoken to my heart over the years.
Daniel 3 tells the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. If you aren't familiar with this story, King Nebuchadnezzar creates a golden statue that everyone must bow down to. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow before his statue.
Daniel 3:17-18 says,
?If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty?s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.?
They are saying they believe God can save them from this but if he does not, they will still love Him and He is still good. The three are thrown into a fiery furnace, but they come out of the furnace untouched.
Their story reminds us that circumstances don't change the unchanging goodness of God. God's goodness is not based upon our circumstances, it is His character, He is good!
