Belle T634, a retired Marine Corps Staff Sergeant and explosive detection dog, bravely served alongside her handler, Sgt. Sam Wettstein, in Afghanistan, helping protect fellow Marines while forming an extraordinary bond built on trust and loyalty. After their deployment, the two were separated, but with the help of Mission K9 Rescue, Belle was reunited with Sam and given the loving retirement she deserved. As the 2016 American Hero Pet of the Year and Dogs on Deployment mascot, Belle became a passionate symbol of military working dog advocacy, raising awareness about the importance of reuniting retired canine heroes with their handlers and honoring the lifelong bonds forged through service.

We?re bringing Dogs on Deployment?s past mascot shirts back from the archives as we prepare to search for the 2027 American Hero Pet of the Year and Dogs on Deployment?s 15th Mascot.
Each mascot represents a chapter in Dogs on Deployment?s history and the military families and pets at the heart of our mission. This limited collection gives our community a chance to revisit those stories, celebrate the mascots who represented us through the years, and support the work that continues today.
Past mascot designs will return to the archives when the 2027 American Hero Pet of the Year is announced on January 1st, 2027.
