Once known only as ?Tag 384,? Tanzie was a stray on the streets of Sarajevo when U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Katie Gar Ward formed a bond with her and ultimately brought her home to the United States. Tanzie?s rescue inspired the Wards to create the Tanzie Project to help other Bosnian street dogs find loving homes. As the 2017 American Hero Pet of the Year and Dogs on Deployment mascot, Tanzie turned her remarkable second chance into a platform for rescue, responsible pet ownership, and support for military families and their pets.

We?re bringing Dogs on Deployment?s past mascot shirts back from the archives as we prepare to search for the 2027 American Hero Pet of the Year and Dogs on Deployment?s 15th Mascot.
Each mascot represents a chapter in Dogs on Deployment?s history and the military families and pets at the heart of our mission. This limited collection gives our community a chance to revisit those stories, celebrate the mascots who represented us through the years, and support the work that continues today.
Past mascot designs will return to the archives when the 2027 American Hero Pet of the Year is announced on January 1st, 2027.
