Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park was located on a property that once housed employees from the Euclid Beach Amusement Park, which closed in 1969. The property had no official use until the 1980s when it was converted into a mobile home park. It became a place that helped people live on the lake who otherwise would not have been able to afford the location. Unfortunately, it also became a dumping ground for unwanted, unsocialized and neglected cats.
The Euclid Beach Feral Cat Project started in 2003 with a group of people hoping to curb cat populations inside the park. The group quickly grew and EBFCP gained their 501(c)(3) in 2013. EBFCP expanded its work into Collinwood, added new team members, and changed names to the Euclid Beach Cat Project (since most cats were not truly ?feral? but classified as abandoned or stray). EBCP quickly spread to serve other areas of NE Ohio with a primary focus in the Collinwood and the Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park.
In 2021 the Western Reserve Land Conservancy announced that it had purchased the land on which the Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park was located with the intent of turning the space into a Metropark. The conservancy approached EBCP to ask for help with the removal of all the cats in the park. The EBCP agreed to assist, but what seemed like an easy task turned into a huge undertaking. Hundreds of cats needed to be removed from the mobile home park, many of whom needed major medical care. Other cats were unsocial and needed a barn relocation plan. Time and money were quickly running out. EBCP spent over $60,000 in medical, housing, feeding, and relocation costs on these cats. Over 150 cats have been saved; many adopted, some relocated to barn homes, others humanely euthanized due to failing quality of life, and others still waiting for families to call their own.
September 2024 marks the end of Euclid Beach Mobile Home Park and demolition is underway. The last of the human residents are moving out and EBCP is busy trying to save the last of the cats that are still on the grounds. Loud noises, change in access, and alternations in the environment have made it especially difficult to find and remove the final cats. However, our efforts will not stop until the last cat is safe!
Even though EBMHP is no longer standing, it provided deep roots upon which our organization can continue to grow. Our volunteers and the supporters continue their work to help stray, abandoned and feral cats. We ask that you stand with us to help continue our mission to help give all cats a chance; from those with dire medical situations, to those with their spirits broken by the ones they trust, they are fostered or in community cat colonies, we work to heal not only their bodies, but their hearts as well.
OUR MISSION:
Euclid Beach Cat Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer group that services cats in the Euclid Beach area and across Northeast Ohio. We believe that all cats deserve a chance, from those with seemingly hopeless medical situations, to those with their spirits broken by the ones they trusted. Whether they are fostered or in community cat colonies, we work to heal not only their bodies, but their hearts as well. We provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) services, medical care, socialization, adoption services, and community awareness.
